Dimming

This life extinguished is one less light
shed upon the darkness within us
through which we stumble blindly
into the abyss of ignorance
where together we perish alone
Our descent lit only by the lingering glow
of faraway stars long deceased
illuminating for a moment, our humanity 
making us recognizable 
to one another
as one another 
separate parts to the same whole 
so that we may cling together 
in terror and joy as we fall 
into acceptance of the great unknown

Mr. Williams, you will be missed, but like all stars, your light will continue to reach us for generations.
